Hot.Summer.Sweat.The fan is no relief.Salty.Sticky.She stares at the ceiling fan.He pretends to sleep, savoring the slickness of her body against his.He knows her presence is as slippery as their skin sliding against each other on that unbearably hot afternoon. She has always been partial to late afternoon light, the shadows somehow hitting the walls in a completely different way than they do in the morning or midday.Afternoon light is brief – a fleeting, bright white light that doesn’t stay for very long.
